Burns & McDonnell Assistant Electrical / Civil / Mechanical Engineer - Distribution Modernization (St. Louis) in Saint Louis, Missouri

Our Transmission & Distribution global practice is looking for an Assistant Distribution Engineer to join our growing Distribution Modernization business line. The Assistant Distribution Engineer will assist in the design of 2.4kV to 34.5kV electric utility distribution projects with the project teams.

This role requires the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize work. The position will be responsible for a variety of challenging duties including project development, project estimation, internal project leadership, and the technical expertise to deliver on complex utility distribution projects. This position will require interface with utility clients and collaboration with multiple Burns & McDonnell offices. Job Duties:

  • Prepare and develop distribution voltage construction packages for both overhead and underground projects, including distribution equipment installation, feeder replacement, cable replacement, and new feeder design.

  • Work closely with the project team to ensure deliverables and services are being provided to client’s satisfaction.

  • Work closely with the project team to ensure that projects are following internal QA/QC guidelines.

  • Prepare calculations and assist with equipment specifications.

  • Assist in the preparation of proposals, engineering/project cost estimates, and execution schedules.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff members.

  • Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.

  • A Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

  • Master of Science degree in Engineering may be substituted for one year of experience.

  • Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is strongly preferred.

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

  • Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.

  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.

  • Basic knowledge of electrical distribution power flow preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.

  • Proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

  • Basic distribution design software experience preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
