Burns & McDonnell Civil CAD Technician - Energy (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

Our CAD Technicians are responsible for revising existing drawings and preparing drawings of basic components from explicit verbal or written instructions or detailed sketches. This position successfully plots drawings; learns and follows company and client drafting standards and procedures; learns the practices of a selected discipline. Other duties as assigned.

The Energy Civil CAD Technician will perform analysis & design and produce drawings for construction of site civil work at new power-generating facilities, as well as upgrades to existing facilities. Responsibilities include conceptual or preliminary design of roads, walkways, parking areas, paving, rail, fencing, site grading, and drainage systems. Provide earthwork quantities for analysis to establish a balanced site and generate road profiles or grading sections. Produce sketches or construction drawings such as site arrangements, demolition plans, erosion & sediment control plans, grading plans, drainage plans, fencing plans, profile & section sheets, and detail sheets.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma and course work in drafting technology or specialized CAD certification or 1-year relevant drafting experience.

  • Associate's degree or bachelor's degree in computer aided drafting/design preferred.

  • Basic knowledge of commands in at least one CAD program; ability to occasionally use higher-level commands, time saving programs and routines.

  • Basic knowledge and experience in multiple CAD systems preferred (including 3D).

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work in collaborative team environment.

  • Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and budget.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
